We Care Center
(the Power of Acceptance & the Skill of Empathy)
The We Care Center provides students an opportunity to express empathy, encouragement, and compassion for others. This can be as simple as a tub like the one in the photo that supplies cards, stickers, things to write with, etc... or it can be a designated space in the classroom.
Students can write well wishes, get well cards, thank you notes, sympathy cards, etc... for classmates, or friends and family outside of school. To manage this, there needs to be explicit instruction, just like with any center, as well as procedures for using the center. For example, there may be a pass for the we care center, where students ask permission to go there.

This teacher put strips such as "Thanks for your help!" that students could use to write a message and spell it correctly. This also gives kids a starting point for using the We Care Center.
